We need a grid battery public safety standard
We really need a proper public safety standard for large batteries—by large, I mean anything too heavy for one person to carry. That covers most electric vehicles bigger than, say, a scooter. When these batteries catch fire, the blaze is massive, super toxic, and can burn for hours—sometimes over a full day—without any real way to put it out. Firefighters face way higher risks dealing with these, and that needs to be factored into the equation. The scariest part is, there’s no clear warning when one of these things might explode. It’s kind of wild that we’re just letting them chill in everyday spaces like it’s no big deal. I really think EVs shouldn’t be parked near schools, kindergartens, hospitals, or retirement homes. And definitely not allowed in tunnels or underground garages.
