Weaponizing ‘The Science’

In the 1400’s the Ming empire of China had the greatest fleet the world had seen to this date. Some of these ships were 4 times larger and more sophisticated than anything Europeans could field. Still, a few decades later most of the ships had been destroyed or left to rot as Ming emperors were afraid of new ideas. They decided to close their borders and their minds and considered that they knew everything there was worth knowing under the Sun. This triggered the centuries-long decline of China and made the once unstoppable superpower of the age easy prey to colonial powers. No regime that tried to suppress alternative points of view ever emerged stronger from it – they all either crumbled or were massively weakened.
