Chief Commodities Analyst Says OPEC+ Is In Full Control

In the television series Game of Thrones, there is a famous scene where King Joffrey shouts in the small council “I am the King” to which Charles Dances Tywin Lannister responds that any king that has to say so is no real King. What shall we make of OPEC’s words then? I don’t see OPEC in control of anything especially since shale has taken the bite out of whatever OPEC throws at us. They follow market movements with some sort of action and then claim they drive the market. If they really drove the market oil prices would go way beyond USD 100 when a Saudi prince says something. If we factor in inflation oil prices are currently pretty low. The last time beyond USD 100 is many years in the past and inflation has moved this target quite a bit anyhow.
