China’s accelerating transition to curtail oil and gas demand

Just as I read the title I had a weird idea. Could it be that China’s leadership knows that an economic meltdown is coming for them and that it’s unavoidable? Could it also be they decided to put more oomph into wind and solar to mask this reduced energy footprint? A shrinking economy needs less energy and making it appear that wind and solar have picked that up masks that and also makes China some miracle country that figured out how to make always interruptible and unreliable energy sources such as wind and solar reliable. Of course, they have not figured anything out but enough people will believe it and this narrative suits China just fine.

Rapid electrification and the adoption of renewables may allow China to trim its dependence on fossil fuels and reach net zero sooner than previously expected

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
