Digging It: Mines, Minerals, and “Green” Energy: A Reality Check

The best thing about coal, oil, gas, and nuclear is that they are incredibly energy-dense. You need a very substantial surface area in order to get similar energy density and we are not even accounting for intermittency. Go get the raw materials and also place for dumping their worn-out gear and the surface area gets bigger and bigger. How is that environmental protection if we transform our best landscapes into bird and bat copping killing fields or beryllium deserts?
