Earth’s Optimal Temperature?

The oceans are full of hydrothermal vents, so-called black smokers, and right in the vicinity of those very hot places full of chemicals life is teeming. According to studies, the density of life around those vents is up to 10.000 times higher than in the normal sea. But considering the temperatures, the chemicals, and the pressures that would not be a very friendly environment for any mammalian life. At least at first sight. Life adapts to its surroundings – not vice versa.
