Eni makes “significant” gas discovery offshore Egypt

How long until OPEC shows up at Egypt’s doorstep with a membership application form? That said, would Egypt really be interested? Most countries inside OPEC either want some Saudi support or are in it for historical reasons. But Egypt is big and powerful with a very strong military and a lot of clout in the Arab world and in Africa to boot. Plus, Egypt is not an “oil-only economy”. It does not need to diversify away. It has that too now on top of what they have done in the past. Egypt has issues to grapple with but those are very different from the typical OPEC country. It might wanna go it alone.
