How much does mass tree planting affect climate change?

This is the one policy I agree with when it comes to climate. Not that I think that it would make any impact on climate patterns or temperatures but that being said, knowing the heat island effect cities produce and knowing a forest’s capability to retain water and cool its surroundings, will certainly affect the local microclimate. Much of the world was forested before humans, especially Europe. Seeing at least some of those forests come back would endear the continent to me. But please, not only tree harvesting schemes but real deep forests that look and feel like what our ancestors 1000 years ago had.

The concerted effort to plant trees at scale didn't begin until the second half of the 20th century
