Marathon Oil, Equatorial Guinea government agree to develop “mega” natural gas hub

Be careful with terms such as “gas hub” as they have very specific meanings. A gas hub is a point in a gas system where gas is being traded and that also provides physical services such as storage to deal with the inflexibilities of the market. What Equatorial Guinea is doing is grabbing some more gas from neighboring countries to boost its LNG production facility in Punta Europa. Thats not a hub but maybe it’s just the lawyer in me that cares about the terminology. Or maybe the promoters of the project need hype language to get the attention of those desperate for LNG by using big words.

The expanded development secures future fuel gas volumes for E.G.'s power generation needs, provides longer-term employment opportunities for Equatoguineans, and will positively impact the local communities' economy.
