Mitsubishi eyes ammonia power growth in Europe

Ammonia to power is a dead end just like hydrogen to power is a dead end. The issue is not even production – well production is very expensive but once you look at storage and transport plus likely harder regulation (ammonia is highly toxic mind you) then the already high production cost figures appear cute. Ammonia’s only attraction is that the binding agent – nitrogen – is readily available everywhere. It’s the major constituent part of the air we breathe. You need energy to split it out but hey, that’s money. Once it’s ammonia you don’t want that stuff to leak anywhere. It would sterilize entire stretches of ocean in case of a spill and just imagine a spill with an ammonia cloud in a harbor. Or in a big city. Not something I am keen on.
