It’s not a huge secret that Putin does not like shale very much. He has said so many times and it’s not a stretch of the imagination that he has shoveled money into organizations that will do anything they can to prevent shale from ever taking off in Europe. It’s not like he had not tried to make shale work for him. The Russian Bhazenov shale is one of the very largest on Earth so there is plenty of resource rock. But Russia has never understood what makes shale tick. It’s not the technology – it’s the attitude. Ownership and entrepreneurship – qualities that are hard to find in Russia.
