S.Africa circles back to shale gas as power crisis drags

Oh yeah, they want to circle back to Shale now. They have never been there so circling back will be a bit of a stretch. And – Shale is an investment – a commitment – for the long term. For Shale to succeed South Africa would have to set its entrepreneurs free and I have a hard time finding many less entrepreneurial countries than South Africa on the continent. The whole country is riddled and beset by affirmative action and political porc. You can’t even fart there without making sure you cut a whole plethora of people that will never do anything useful in. And your committee meetings will need very large rooms. Not the way Shale runs.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
