Shell predicts free gas forever for Gorgon and Prelude LNG

Free gas – sure. But is it wise to draw the attention of politicians to this very fact. Gas is a long-term dance and it’s never wise to piss off one party when the dance will still last for a long time. The pissed-off party will find a way to pay you back plenty. What really happened is that those projects were sanctioned during the time when LNG projects could not be expensive enough for developers. They thought that the market will always pay any price they ask – when it does not.

Shell's accountants predict the Dutch giant will never pay Australia for gas consumed at the Gorgon and Prelude LNG projects that it can sell for up to about $4 billion a year.
