Most people are not aware that I am a tax, commercial, and contracts lawyer by training. This means that already in law school I was exposed to advanced accountancy methods not for keeping books but for being able to dissect them and understand what was going on. Pretty much from the beginning, my war with Key Performance Indicators began. I hated them as to me they were never more than a tool to obfuscate anything and to massage any data to provide the results you wanted. When I worked in a big corporation my fears were confirmed as controlling and a bunch of other specialists did nothing but cook the books. Many of our corporate rules and regulations are wrong and need abolition.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
