In my lobbying work, I am constantly exposed to all kinds of politicians, media folks, high-level civil servants, and other members of the elite. They all have in common that they are honestly bewildered about the life realities of the normal person. One day we had a pretty heated discussion about poverty in Austria and I had the entire group against me. They were adamant that there was no poverty in Austria. It just so happened that there was a social supermarket for the poor on the ground floor of the building. The queues wrapped around the building. Elites will happily throw us under the bus.
