Trump on China trade talks: ‘We are not ready to make a deal’

Why would he make a deal now? China is blinking and besides, as soon as there is a deal, there is the cheating again. Making a deal is not even half the work – its the easy part. the hard part is making the other side live up to their commitments and China is used to a situation where Western politicians are way too eager to put down problems in order to not have to deal with them. Its easier to just do and say nothing as long as nobody steals my votes. Trump seems not to be affected by those games – he plays his own and Chinese leaders cannot stomach this. Nobody can make China live up to a deal – so why have one?

President Trump on Friday said he was not ready to strike a trade deal with China, dimming hopes for a breakthrough in the near future.
