When it comes to capitalizing on LNG, Canada could learn a thing or two from Qatar

Oh no, Canada will not be able to learn anything from Qatar for decades. Qatar is a top-heavy state and society. It’s not an example of liberal democracy. It has leadership that must not care what some entitled pressure groups might want or think. They can concentrate on what makes sense for them. Does this mean that autocracy is the better system? Not at all. Autocrats make mistakes just like western politicians do and they don’t have a corrective in the form of elections getting rid of the losers and bringing in a new team. That might not resolve the problem but it’s a chance. But right now, democracies’ new teams have been as bad as the old ones. This gives some autocracies an edge. For now.
