China-Russia Gas Talks to Show How Much Xi Is Embracing Putin

Two countries that have maneuvered themselves into a corner. Russia has accelerated its downfall by decades through this war and China’s turbo-financed sweatshop model has finally hit some very rough seas. Combined with rapid population aging and decline in both countries, this is combining the Plague with Ebola. Shall we worry? Well, both have nukes and this is always something to keep in mind but I would not worry too much. When empires disintegrate (that’s what’s happening in both cases) there will always be misery but there is little we can do about it one way or another. Those who resemble like to assemble.

China has billed Xi Jinping’s trip to Moscow this week as a “journey of friendship.” Talks on a long-term gas deal may reveal the limits of what he can and will do for Vladimir Putin.
