Germany’s LNG terminals to cost more than double earlier estimate

What did they expect? Germany had dragged its feet and sold its soul for decades, scuppering any idea of an LNG terminal that dared to raise its head. Now they need to use floaters and contrary to some very flawed analysts’ opinions, those floaters are not cheap at all. Their capacities are very limited and the existence of a time charter instead of a large upfront investment makes them look enticing. But as my grandfather always used to say, when a deal looks too good to be true, it usually is. Germans still root for Russian gas to come back but even when it does, it won’t be cheap anymore.
