Monbiot : We Must End Our Dependence On Farming

Not even the most basic civilization would survive without farming. Humanity has farmed since the Stone Age and even if we won’t return all the way to the Stone Age, we would have to reduce the world’s population by at least 99% if we ended farming altogether. Who signs up for that? Not me in any case. That being said, there is a case to be made to make farming far more efficient than what we have today. Even very efficient Mid-West farmers have quite some way to go but the real sweet cut lies in countries that are far from US efficiencies and farming economics. We could all eat very well with better farming and much less surface need.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network.
