The Guardian: A $20+ Carbon Tax would Boost Economic Growth
What is economic growth? Can you eat it? Can you pay rent with it? Can it make your rendering hairline get any fuller? Economic growth is just a BS figure. A figure invented by economists so they can tell us how we have to feel. Because a growing economy is a good economy – ain’t it that? Because a carbon tax would almost certainly blow up certain figures in ways that will make it appear as if all is good. But if the economy grows by a certain figure and your income with it but your costs grow by double that, you are in trouble. Let’s stop looking at BS figures and get back to common sense. Expropriating people from what is theirs is never a good thing for them. Handing over your cash to the authorities (i.e. sleazy politicians) will only feed the monster and make you more miserable.
