Time to retire the term ‘renewable energy’ from serious discussion and energy policy directives

For wind and solar to ever become renewable, concrete, steel and all kinds of petrochemicals must become renewables. In a sense, petrochemicals are much closer to renewable than it might seem. All oil products come from hydrocarbons extracted from the earth and as the old and worn fossil fuel theory seems to be on its last legs and it becomes ever more apparent that oil and gas are the product of geological processes deep inside the Earth, it’s those hydrocarbons that are truly renewables and wind and solar are non-renewables as they can only be harvested by using non-renewable resources in extreme volumes. Do we need concrete and steel for oil and gas? Sure we do, but much much less per unit of energy than wind and solar.
