Shale drillers have been through the most extraordinary roller coaster for more than 15 years now. Hype, misery, hype, misery – on/off all the time. New money and then consolidation plus only the best survived the hard times. It’s a workout. A new, very sexy business such as shale attracts a lot of shady individuals and businesses of course. Many of them did not survive the hard times. It was a culling that cleaned the playing field. This is not even close to the hardest times that shale has seen. When the bad beans go out of business, the rest can grow better. Shale is here to stay.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
