Shell’s lofty ambitions for Asian LNG demand face price hurdle: Russell

Once upon a time, a really long time ago, building bigger, better, more efficient, and cheaper LNG plants was all the rage. LNG did what computers and any other technology did. Things became better and more efficient and mass production was poised to produce yet another drop in prices. And then, it all went away and we suddenly were in a race to build the most expensive LNG plant ever. Cost went from around 400 USD per ton capacity to over 2000 USD per ton capacity. Shell did a lot to kindle that flame. Now it just seems that everyone has forgotten the ghosts of the past. But we will have to come back to sanity as LNG can be done a lot cheaper and then it will grow much better. Otherwise, it will be hard.
